More of our Winners & Champions of the Past and Present

9x Am Fld Ch./GFC3/GAFC/DC/AFC Tequila Scorcher "Lincoln"

sire: DC Almaden's River of Shadows
dam: DC/AFC Tequila With A Twist
Owned by Bernie Crain
wh. 7/27/10

One of four special pups from River & Taryn's litter, Lincoln has been the star in field trials. Chosen as his "pick" in this litter by our trainer Ed Tillson, Lincoln kept his call name from the litter (nicknamed after counties in Montana), though it has no relation to my later decision to give the pups "weather-related" registered names! Lincoln was owned by me through his Puppy points and then taken on by Bernie Crain when he was a year old. He easily earned his juvenile points and showed great promise as a future All Age contender. Lincoln began fulfilling his potential in 2016, when he earned three American Field Championship stake wins in the spring, including the prestigious US Open Brittany Championship, and finished his AKC Field Championship and Amateur Field Championships in April. He has continued winning in hour All Age stakes, finishing 4th in the Purina All Age Dog of the Year standings in 2018 when he also placed 4th in the ABC National Field Championship, and finished his Grand Field Champion title by winning the Kansas Championship. He was Runner-Up in the 2020 ABC National Amateur Field Championship to complete his Grand Amateur Field Championship. Lincoln also completed his Dual Championship in just 8 appearances in the show ring! Lincoln finished his career by winning Runner-Up a second year in a row, at the 2021 ABC National Amateur Field Championship, then went to enjoy retirement at home with Bernie and his family.

DC Alar's Tango Bar "Tango"

sire: DC/AFC Redlines Tequila Smoker
dam: Ch. Sovereign Alar Skyrocket JH
Owned by Katherine Thompson
wh. 9/6/06

Tango's owner, Katherine Thompson is a lifelong hunter who had owned several great hunting Brittanys before she found us in a search for a new one in 2006. Although she purchased Tango to hunt with, Katherine saw such great potential in this pup that she knew she had to do more! With a strong foundation of regularly hunting chukar and other wild birds in Idaho, Tango did prove to be an outstanding field trial competitor. She earned a puppy and derby placement at home in Idaho, and then later went to Ed Tillson to polish her field trial skills. Under Ed's guidance, Tango finished her Field Championship at 3-1/2 years old, quickly becoming popular with judges and observers for her blazing ground speed, excellent bird finding ability and high style on point. Tango won her first two Amateur stakes with Katherine handling, and continued her excellent hunting seasons with Katherine and friends.

After having a couple of "practice" shows in her earlier days, Tango set out to work towards her Dual Championship in October 2011, earning a major for her first show points. In just a few outings the following spring, Tango became the 8th Dual Champion for her sire and second for her dam in May, 2012. It takes great owners to make great dogs, so I am ever thankful to Katherine for giving Tango every opportunity to reach her full potential! Tango's first (oopsie) litter produced Katherine's CH Raise The Bar SH, and his brother DC/GCH Ory's Marshal Dillon SH, who completed his Dual Championship with just 3 field trial placements (5 point 1st, 2 point 2nd, and another 5 point 1st) Tango's last litter by DC Shadow Attack produced multiple field pointed offspring including 2019 National Field Champion, NFC/FC/AFC Wild Wild Willie, and Tequila Zenyatta who became an excellent producer herself. Tango lived a long, happy life to the age of 16.

DC/AFC Alar's Patch of Blue Sky "Sky"

sire: NAFC/GAFC/GAFC Spanish Corral's Sonny Patch
dam: DC/AFC Alar's Dirty Dancer
Owned by Sandra Sargent & Steve Tubach
wh. 2/23/2019

I kept Sky along with her sister Sundae for the first few months, but finally decided I could only keep one and Sky was fortunate to find an outstanding home with breeders Steve & Sandy in Pennsylvania. She earned her Derby points along with other juvenile placements before coming back for shows in 2021. She finished her show title with us before going back to work in the field, spending the summer of 2023 getting broke with Al Cropek, then coming out to place in every trial in the fall to finish her Amateur Field Championship! Her DC was completed a year later with owners Steve & Sandy, and we are so thankful to them for taking Sky to her full potential!

CH/AFC Anchor's Lucky Number Seven "Lucky"

sire: NAFC/GAFC/GAFC Spanish Corral's Sonny Patch
dam: DC/AFC Alar's Dirty Dancer
Owned by Dick & Kathryn Lipski
wh. 2/23/2019

Lucky is the only one of the two boys from Patch & Dani's litter to get into competition, but he has more than proven himself with multiple juvenile placements and Derby wins, including an American Field Derby stake rarely won by a short-tailed Brittany! Lucky has gotten lots of great hunting time on the way to working on his titles, and now has both his show and Amateur Field Championship complete, just working on finishing off the rest of the points for his DC!

Dance The Dust Off JH "Aspen"

sire: NAFC/GAFC/GAFC Spanish Corral's Sonny Patch
dam: DC/AFC Alar's Dirty Dancer
Owned by Samantha James & Dan Dodson
wh. 2/23/2019

Another super special girl from Patch & Dani's litter, Aspen was a little clone of her mother as a pup and has developed into a hard running, hard pointing little bird dog who has her Derby points and is now working on training for adult stakes. She also got out to earn her Junior Hunter title during the Covid slowdown, then came back to us for some shows in 2023, getting halfway to her show title.

Ch. TJ's Brightest Jewel "Jewel"

sire: NFC/DC/AFC Tequila's Joker
dam: DC/AFC Alar's Dirty Dancer
Owned by Joe Cummings, Scott Kohler & Brad Sutherland
wh. 3/15/2017

Jewel was one of five from our very special frozen semen breeding to NFC/DC/AFC Tequila's Joker (TJ). She earned her Puppy points in field trials after just a couple of outings, and has multiple wins in big Derby stakes. Between spring trials and summer camp, Jewel hit some dog shows and completed her Championship title at 15 months old with two 5-point major wins and two Best of Breed wins over a special!

Ch. TJ's Tequila On Ice "Vice"

sire: NFC/DC/AFC Tequila's Joker
dam: DC/AFC Alar's Dirty Dancer
Owned by Samantha James & Dan Dodson
wh. 3/15/2017

Vice was a standout from our very special frozen semen breeding to NFC/DC/AFC Tequila's Joker (TJ). He was slow to mature in the field so he didn't compete as a juvenile, instead developing during our summer training in Montana both on wild and released birds. Vice began to show great bird finding ability, impressive style on point, and his boldness and independence grew each summer. Vice completed his show championship in 2021 and then went to live in Pennsylvania with Samantha & Dan, where he hopes to finish training to compete in field trials in the future.

TJ's Ice Dancer, JH "Kate"

sire: NFC/DC/AFC Tequila's Joker
dam: DC/AFC Alar's Dirty Dancer
Owned by Ed Tillson & Jessica Carlson
wh. 3/15/2017

Kate was my pick female from our frozen semen breeding to NFC/DC/AFC Tequila's Joker (TJ). Although she didn't turn out to be my next best field trial competitor, little 27 lb Kate is a ton of fun to run from foot, very easy to live with, and great with our puppies, so she has earned her spot as my personal pet & training dog, even getting to go to a hunt test during Covid times in 2020 and earning her Junior Hunter with 4 straight passes.

Ch. LOL Dirty Dancer "Roxy"

sire: GCH Sovereign's Chasing Legends
dam: DC/AFC Alar's Dirty Dancer
Owned by Jim Leverich
wh. 7/19/15

Roxy was fortunate to find herself a Hall of Fame owner in Jim Leverich. She was started as a hunting dog but soon impressed with her ability in the field so the decision was made to give her a chance in field trials. Roxy earned her Puppy and Derby field points in short order, and soon became the third show champion from this litter as well. Sadly after Mr Leverich's passing, Roxy was not able to continue competing towards her Dual title.

Ch. Alar's Tequila in the Shadows "Tallulah"

sire: GCH Sovereign's Chasing Legends
dam: DC/AFC Alar's Dirty Dancer
Owned by Mark & Joe Holzinger
wh. 7/19/15

Dani's "mini-me", Tallulah has spent time between her two homes in Indiana and Idaho, and gets to hunt there and in between. She earned her Puppy points in her very first field trial and has impressed in her early running. Her show title was completed in just a couple of outings, earning three 5-point majors on specialty weekends! She is more than halfway to completing her Dual Championship, with her owner Mark handling her in the field.

Can. Ch. Amigo's Spot On Miss Annie, FDJ "Annie"

sire: GCH Sovereign's Chasing Legends
dam: DC/AFC Alar's Dirty Dancer
Owned by Kim Williamson & Tom Doherty
wh. 7/19/15

Annie, the little white/liver girl from Hobey & Dani's litter, went to live in Canada where she has earned wins in both field and show. Her style on point is second to none, and she has produced some great pups for them.

Ch. Alar's Fairchild Wild Rice JH CAX BCAT RATO TKN "Rice"

sire: GCH Sovereign's Chasing Legends
dam: DC/AFC Alar's Dirty Dancer
Owned by Tammy Lorch
wh. 7/19/15

Rice (named for her color, a family name, and more) was bound to become the versatile girl in this litter, and she has lived up to expectations! Rice has already earned titles in hunt tests, coursing ability, barn hunt, trick dog, and finished her show championship with four majors. There will no doubt be more coming from this girl in several arenas!

Mud On The Tires, RN "Hooli"

sire: DC Hoochie Coochie Man
dam: Tequila Twister
Owned by Katy Gill
wh. 2/27/15

Formerly "Muddy", she grew up with me and got her start in both field and show, with a win in each, before going to a friend in Minnesota who was looking for a new agility partner. Her new name is Hooligan, and she is now learning all about agility as well as Rally obedience!

Ch. Bandit's Mr Twister "Buck"

sire: DC/AFC Bandit's Cinderella Man
dam: Tequila Twister
Owned by Vic Retherford
wh. 1/27/14

Buck was the pick puppy from Twister's first litter. He was a standout from the start, and grew into everything we hoped for! He earned his Puppy and Derby points in short order, and his first Amateur All Age placement at just 14 months old! Buck took a few weeks out for dog shows in May/June 2015, earning his show Championship with a Best of Breed win and finishing up with a specialty major at 17 months old. Buck returned to the field and was racking up more adult placements, getting ready for his second season in All Age stakes when he sadly died in an accident just after turning 2 years old.

Rusty Ridge Pepper Rey Ann "Pepper Ann"

sire: Am/Can DC Kinwashkly Dirty Ned Pepper
dam: DC/AFC Shadow's Tequila Tryst
Owned by Jan & Claude Kilpatrick
wh. 4/16/13

Pepper Ann was the only girl from a surprising litter of all tri-color puppies! The Kilpatricks in Texas were the lucky ones to claim this special pup. Pepper placed in her very first trial and then won multiple Puppy stakes in a row. By 9 months old she also had mutiple Derby wins, and was Runner-Up in the Texas Derby Classic. She racked up 27 juvenile field placements, culminating with a win of the 2015 Victoire Nationale Derby Championship, the breed's only 1-hour stake for juvenile dogs! She was already earning All Age placements in her first adult season, but was tragically lost at just 3 years of age and is very sadly missed.

Triple Shot of Southern Comfort "SoCo"

sire: Am/Can DC Kinwashkly Dirty Ned Pepper
dam: DC/AFC Shadow's Tequila Tryst
Owned by Richard Beaver
wh. 4/16/13

SoCo was slow to start, but got some good experience hunting wild quail around El Paso while he was growing up. He earned a win in Amateur Gun Dog before becoming a treasured hunting companion in Montana.

Ch. Alar's Double Shot of Tequila, JH "Zeke"

sire: DC Warbonnet's Orion In The Big Sky JH
dam: CH Tullamore With A Twist
Owned by Joe Holzinger
wh. 1/24/13

Zeke was my pick of an "experimental" litter, the first one for both parents (Rye and Tule). He went to live in Couer d'Alene Idaho, where he gets to hunt regularly with his owner Joe and is also getting started in hunting tests and field trials. Zeke came with me on the show circuit in 2014 and finished his Championship easily at 16 months old with 3 majors; the first being a Best of Breed win over a special, and the last a big 5-pointer! Zeke spent some time pursuing his Dual Championship before his owner's family commitments precluded that; he is now back to hunting at home in Idaho.

BISS GCh. Sovereign Alar Rock Foundation "Camo"

sire: CH Alar's The Rocketeer CD SH
dam: Alar's Iroc Z
Owned by Dawn & Joe Droel & Jessica Carlson
wh. 12/15/12

Camo was the only surviving puppy from a frozen semen breeding out of a bitch the Droels leased for that purpose. A stunningly beautiful show dog, Camo finished his show title easily and earned a Best in Specialty Show win to complete his Grand Championship. Camo preferred being a house pet to a bird dog though, so he got his wish and now has a wonderful family to call his own.

Dbl K's Tempest Sky of Alar "Flynn"

sire: DC Lost Creek Timber Ridge
dam: DC Alar's Sky Dancer
Owned by Neal & Brenda Kernes
wh. 5/1/11

The Kernes family had a previous Brittany from us several years ago, and after losing him decided to get another that they could compete with. Although Flynn grew too big for the show ring, he became a quick study in field trials. Under the guidance of trainer/handler Ed Tillson, he easily earned his Derby points and several adult placements.

Rock Solid's Like You Only Prettier, UD, RN "Penny"

sire: DC Lost Creek Timber Ridge
dam: DC Alar's Sky Dancer
Owned by Dave & Amy Pluth
wh. 5/1/11

The Pluths were hoping for a liver female, and instead ended up with orange roan Penny! She has a great life with them in Minnesota, doing everything from obedience and rally, to agility and hunting. Penny is the first of our dogs to earn an advanced obedience title, and we expect she'll have many more titles in her future!

Ch. FireStarter's Tequila Torrent "Torrey"

sire: DC Almaden's River of Shadows
dam: DC/AFC Tequila With A Twist
Owned by Andi Christensen
wh. 7/27/10

Torrey was the first of River & Taryn's pups to earn a title. Andi handled her to two majors from the puppy classes, and I later signed on as co-owner so I could show her in Bred by Exhibitor during the summer of 2012. Her title was finished quickly, with a total of 4 majors! Torrey now has a loving family of her own in Colorado.

Ch. Tequila Tempest "Emmie"

sire: DC Almaden's River of Shadows
dam: DC/AFC Tequila With A Twist
Owned by Jessica Carlson - loved by the Shultis family
wh. 7/27/10

The second of River & Taryn's pups to finish in the show ring, Emmie got a fast start to her title by winning a major at her first show in July 2011. Since I was busy with other dogs, Emmie went to my good friend Judy Cohen in Pennsylvania, who piloted her to the rest of her title. Emmie finished just a few weeks after her sister Torrey. She is a super sweet charmer who can always make you smile! She now has a very happy home with the Shultis family in Pennsylvania.

FC/AFC JJ's Tasmanian Devil "Taz"

sire: Sovereign's Git-R-Done
dam: Ged's Alar Lady Liberty
Owned by Joe Williams & Jenny Ro
wh. 9/24/08

Taz was placed by Ed Tillson with Joe Williams who wanted to get back into field trials after a long time away from them. Taz proved to be a naturally talented All Age competitor, and he became an early winner. Training and competing both with his owners and with Ed, Taz finished his Field Championship at just 3 years of age. He's now back home in Ohio continuing his field career with Joe handling, and placed 3rd in the 2013 National Amateur Championship!

Oops On A Double Tequila Night NAP NJP "Ginger"

sire: Sovereign's Git-R-Done
dam: Ged's Alar Lady Liberty
Owned by Katy Battis
wh. 9/24/08

The "oops" in Ginger's name was the result of her being from an accidental breeding that took place while her parents were in summer training! However it was a "happy accident" as the pedigree was strong, and all four of the resulting pups went on to become great competitors and hunters. Ginger earned field and show points before going home to Minnesota to hunt and compete in agility.

FC/AFC Twist'n Tequila's Shadow "Lila"

sire: NFC/FC/AFC Shambo's Dark Shadow
dam: DC/AFC Tequila With A Twist
Owned by Jim & Drew Carter
wh. 5/17/08

The only liver girl from Shadow & Taryn's litter, Lila was claimed from the start by the Carters from Georgia. She grew into a very stylish and successful field trial competitor, including placing at the 2013 National Amateur Gun Dog Championship, and produced some nice pups for the Carters.

Ch. 5 O'Clock Shadow "Spike"

sire: NFC/FC/AFC Shambo's Dark Shadow
dam: DC/AFC Tequila With A Twist
Owned by Ed & Judy Graves
wh. 5/17/08

Spike had a slow start in the field but had multiple juvenile field trial placements. Judy allowed me to co-own Spike in the summer of 2013 so that I could give him a try in shows (sometimes in the Bred by Exhibitor class). It took just a month, and Spike became Taryn's 6th Champion -- the third from her first litter, sired by Shadow.

Alar's Tequila Extra Gold "Lexie"

sire: DC/AFC Redlines Tequila Smoker
dam: Ch. Sovereign Alar Skyrocket JH
Owned by Tom & Kristi Rathje
wh. 9/6/06

Lexie was the "pick" of Halley's second litter, and meant to be their Dual Champion. Things don't always work out as planned, however, so although Lexie easily completed her Puppy and Derby points in the field, it was her sister Tango who went on to become the star of this litter (see top of this page)!

Australian Ch. Alar's Steel Shadow "Steel"

sire: FC KB's Shadow-Dancer
dam: Ch. Sovereign Alar Skyrocket JH
Owned by Marilyn Di Natale & Jennifer Sharrock
wh. 9/25/05

Steel was the pick puppy from Halley's first litter. He was promised before he was born to a breeder in Australia who was hoping to bring some new blood into their country. Steel grew up in the US for his first year, then went to Australia to become a show champion and valued sire. He has already accomplished both of those and is enjoying his life "down under".

Ged's Alar Lady Liberty "Libby"

sire: FC KB's Shadow-Dancer
dam: Ch. Sovereign Alar Skyrocket JH
Owned by Ryan Geddie & Jessica Carlson
wh. 9/25/05

Libby went to Ryan Geddie in Texas mainly as a hunting dog. Ryan also allowed me to put her in some shows where she earned both majors, and later put her with Ed Tillson for training in the field, and she won a big 5-point Gun Dog stake in Kansas. Unfortunately Libby wasn't campaigned to the finish of field or show titles, or she could have been a second Dual Champion out of this litter! Libby's only litter produced field winners FC JJ's Tasmanian Devil and Oops On A Double Tequila Night, seen above.

Ch. Sovereign's Architect's Code, SH "Frankie"

sire: Ch. Alar's The Rocketeer CD SH
dam: Ch. Sovereign's Built To Code JH
Owned by Don McNabb
wh. 5/5/01

Frankie was Chase's son that I co-owned with his breeders (Dawn & Joe Droel) for three years. He finished easily in the show ring with 4 majors including 2 specialty wins, with big accomplishments at the ABC Summer and National specialties along the way. He was Best in the ABC Western Futurity show in February 2003. In the summer of 2004 he went back to Minnesota to be specialed by Dawn, winning multiple Bests of Breed and a Sporting Group First.

Frankie was a beautiful, intense bird dog who finished his Junior Hunter title easily and placed three times in Derby field trial stakes. He was my best buddy and went everywhere with me for a couple of years, but when it became apparent that he had more potential than I had time to devote to his field work, I made the decision to find him a new home where he would be as loved and spoiled as he was with me, and also be able to continue in the field. He found that with his new owner, and was able to complete his Senior Hunter title along with having many successful hunting trips in his long happy life.

Wyntuk-Alar Sassy Sadie "Sadie"

sire: Ch. N-Vee's Touch of Romance
dam: Ch. Ridona Bright Star of Wyntuk [photo]
Owned by Judy DiFranco
wh. 11/1/94

A regular beach runner and a true monster, "Sassy Sadie" was always hard as a rock and ready to go. With gorgeous true, sound, straight movement, she was always in contention in the show ring, but the beach wreaked havoc on her coat and she never had any featherings...she took a bunch of major Reserves, but no points. I showed her in Bred By Exhibitor at the ABC National Specialty in 1996, where she won a huge, beautiful Bred By Exhibitor class and then got Reserve Winners Bitch. I took a break from dog shows for a few years after that show, so this beautiful girl never finished her Championship. And I was so taken away by Rock winning the national that year, I forgot to get a picture of Sadie's Reserve win, so we don't even have a show photo of her!

Wyntuk-Alar Rock Star "Axel"

sire: Ch. N-Vee's Touch of Romance
dam: Ch. Ridona Bright Star of Wyntuk [photo]
Owned by Neal Kernes
wh. 11/1/94

I kept Axel in hopes of finding a show home for him. He won Best in Sweepstakes his first time out, later won his (big) 12-15 months class at the ABC National in 1995, then won 2nd Money Male at the Western Futurity in 1996. He was a dynamo in the field, and won two juvenile field trial placements. Although Axel was very nice, he was not the caliber of Rock or Chase, so I chose to find him a great home where he was very happy hunting and playing with the kids throughout his long life. The Kernes family are now competing in field trials with Dbl K's Tempest Sky of Alar, known as "Flynn", seen above.

Ch. Mill Creek Splash of Alar, CD "Splash"

sire: Ch. N-Vee's Touch of Romance
dam: Ch. Alar's N-Vee My Heritage
Owned by Cathy Dutra
wh. 9/2/93

Splash was the third of the litter's show pups to win a major from the puppy class. Hers was a major BOS to Rock (shown here). She also finished with 3 majors. In 2000 she finished her CD with high scores, placements in her class, and twice earning High Scoring Brittany.

Ch. Alar's Kathleen "Katie"

sire: Ch. N-Vee's Touch of Romance
dam: Ch. Alar's N-Vee My Heritage
Owned by T.K. (Kathy) Boyll
wh. 9/2/93

Katie also got an early start in the show ring, winning her first major with a BOS over specials from the puppy class, and finished easily with 4 majors. Dave Lachance broke her and was running her in Gun Dog stakes when she was accidentally bred, and was unable to complete her field title since soon thereafter Dave stopped competing in Brittany trials. Later bred to Ch. Hybrittin's Buffalo Bonz, Katie produced Ch. SMR Rincon Vista Duchess CD JH AX AXJ, and Princess Haley II who gave us our superstar, Taryn. Kathy kept two of Katie's daughters who lived long and happy lives with her in northern California.

Ch. Alar's Nevada Gamble "Reno"

sire: DCh. CJ's Redwing Rebel [photo]
dam: Ch. Ridona's Colorado Spring, CD
Owned by Anne Brendell
wh. 6/11/93

Reno was more than a bit wild, and his owner didn't know what to do with him. She knew he was gorgeous but couldn't control him in the show ring. She asked if she could send him to me and see what I could do with him. I decided to use his ultra-alertness and energy to his advantage, and entered him in a few shows. He was a REAL handful, but finished in less than 10 shows, taking third place once and otherwise always Winners or Reserve.

Ch. Alar's N-Vee My Heritage "Holly"

sire: Ch. Ridona's Proud Heritage
dam: Ch. Ridona's Colorado Spring, CD
Owned by Michelle Gamblin
wh. 7/1/90

Holly lived in Montana, where shows, much less majors, were scarce. Her owner sent her to be shown by me in California, where she finished easily with 3 majors. She was briefly shown as a special, winning several Bests of Breed in the Spring of 1993 (one shown here). At that time we acquired Rock, who was bred by Holly's owner. She agreed to let me lease Holly for her first litter, and breed her to Rock. The resulting litter produced Chase, Katie, and Splash, shown above.

Ch. Alar's Summer Breeze "Emma"

sire: Ch. Ridona's Proud Heritage
dam: Ch. Ridona's Colorado Spring, CD
Owned by Brian Nixon & Jessica Carlson
wh. 7/1/90

After winning a major Best of Opposite over specials her first weekend out from the 6-9 class, Emma finished with 3 majors.  She was my first "homebred" Champion.
